You've read that right, export then reimport. Make a new project out of this outfit and then immediately reimport it. As I said, I'm assuming you know your way around Bodyshop. You are going to need working copies of Bodyshop, SimPE and Milkshape (with the appropriate plugins, extended manual edit/align normals are here) for this tutorial.
